Orthotics: Orthotics are designed to help relieve pain in feet, some times prefab orthotics work and other time the patient must have a custom one made.  I recommend you get a diagnosis as to what is causing the foot pain.

my ankle/top of my foot hurts when i walk down stairs. the pain is on the outside of the foot?

Just a thought: sounds a bit like METATARSALGIA  pain in the head of the metatarsal bone, 4th 5th toes.....
An in person visit would be helpful since there is usually POINT TENDERNESS over that bone..

i tripped on my sandal and now the middle of my foot hurts when i walk, but should i ice or heat it?

Ice: Ice is better after an acute injury. No longer than about 20 minutes per hour and not directly on the skin. If the pain does not improve, see a specialist for an evaluation.

i have a morton's neuroma. after i have been off my feet for awhile, the ball of my foot hurts so i can hardly walk.  is that because of the neuroma?

Neuroma: Yes the neuroma generally hurts at the ball the foot even if you stay off of it. It is the compression of the nerve do to the surrounding tissues of the 3rd interspace. An injection with nsaids can help, in conjunction of orthotic wear. Finally the decompression surgery is the last option but might i add very successful in curing the condition.

Many possibilities: Have a professional evaluate it.  A good history and physical exam along with some radiologic exams will determine the problem and course of treatment.

Infection: The swelling from allergy comes up right away. Swelling a couple days later is usually an infection. You should see a doctor.

Possibly: I would recommend evaluation by a physician.  X-rays would be required to rule out a broken bone.

Have a foot exam...: Your stress fracture 9 months ago may have been more than just the bone injury.  There are several soft tissue structures that overlay the top of the foot.  There are tendons and ligaments which may have been damaged.  Have the foot checked properly.  See a podiatrist for a full foot exam.  You had a bone scan and ct scan, but an MRI is a better diagnostic test to evaluate the soft tissue.

See a podiatrist: Need to be evaluated for any broken bones. Since feet do not have much muscle for protection, they can break. Please see a podiatrist to for x-rays to make sure there is no fracture. Meanwhile ice your foot and elevate it as much as possible.
