Tetanus shot: Anytime you break the skin, it is important to be up to date on tetanus immunization.  If it has been more than 10yrs, you need a tetanus shot.  Clean area and see your doctor if signs of infection develop (if you are up to date with tetanus)

i got a tiny cut from a rusted razor blade that was sitting in my home. it is so small but it did bleed a bit. i never got a tetanus shot, should i be concerned about that? i cleaned it with soap and sprayed alcohol on it and neoporin with band-aid?

: Yes, you should be up to date with your tetanus shot. The easiest will be during a visit with your primary care doc, when you can have the foot wound looked at and getting your tetanus shot. Foot wounds tend to get infected due to location and should be watched and cared for closely until healed completely.

i was changing a car tire and got cut by a wire sticking out. of course the tire was dirty. my last tetanus shot was either 2014 or 2015. ive washed the wound multiple times with soap and water, used alcohol wipes and hydrogen peroxide. am i okay?

: Am totally unaware of any tetanus case caused by dirty tires.  However, a  bacterial  infection risk would be a distinct potential.  If you develop swelling, reddening, pustulence, or progressive limb inflammation, this  could represent cellulitis, with  need for antibiotics.

: Yes. I know of no reason for anyone to change their activities of daily life after this vaccination. Simple ethanol intake will not affect the immune response.

: Rusty items themselves do not cause tetanus. The reason why tetanus is associated with rusty things is that rusty things are in dirty places especially outside where the bacteria Clostridium tetani is. This bacterium is mostly found in soil and feces (both animal and human) and in a very dirty house it is found in house dust. I do not think your rusty razor was in any of those places. No worries!

The far larger risk: is from rusty nail which has been buried in soil, is damp, &amp; produces a deep dirty puncture wound containing necrotic tissue which allows spores of Clostridium tetani to grow and produce the neurotoxin. my dad shaved my dirty dog with my personal clippers. i didnt know but when i came home i cleaned them with soap, water, bleach and even alcohol before use. i ended up cutting myself while shaving. do i need new tetanus shot? my tdap is 4 years old.

TDap vaccine: TDap vaccine has to be reinforced every 10 years, so you should be ok.
