Personal opinion: I haven't found it too significant. Most people don’t have problems with the Td Vaccine (Adult Tetanus &amp; Dipehteria). According to the CDC -  8 in 10 people have pain at injection site, there is mild fever in 1 out of 5, redness or swelling at injection site in 1/3rd.

Booster needed: Pretty rare. But if you haven't had tetanus booster in the last ten years get one to protect yourself. Tetanus is a slow growing organism, so you have time to get that booster, but don't procrastinate too long.

: 12 hours is an okay delay for a tetanus booster. There are other potential diseases to be aware of but you did not indicate whether the needle had ever been used on a human.

Unlikely/Booster due: Booster is recommended for adults, but it is not very likely from a routine wooden fence. If the fencing has metal, rust, then it is more of a concern. Keep the area clean and dry. Please see a provider to remove the splinter if accessible. Watch for signs of redness, drainage and swelling and if these occur, please see urgent care.

: You have to have a blood contact if you put it in your ear and drew blood. If you cut yourself on an object that is dirty than you could be subject to a tetanus infection. The tetanus spores can last for years. Wash off your earing in alcohol.

No shot needed.: If it's a non-rusty sewing needle, it's unlikely you will need tetanus shot.  This shot lasts 5-10 years.  If you haven't had the shot over 6 years. It;s best to get another one.  This will protect you for future deep wound or cut injuries that may put you at risk for tetanus.

i got a tattoo 4 years ago and i was just reading an article about complications with unclean needles at tattoo parlors and it got me thinking... was my needle clean?! im just wondering if i wouldve known by now if i got aids or tetanus??

Not tetanus: All other needle transmitted infections, including hepatitis remain possible as they may stay quiet for years. Talk to your doc about getting screened.
