A few possibities: People with depression often experience changes in energy like this.  So can people with various types of anxiety disorder.  There can be other medical problems as well -- such as thyroid dysfunction, various chronic infections, anemias, etc.  You could see your primary care physician for a history and physical, to sift through possibilities.  Referral to a psychiatrist may be needed too.

i understand magnesium oxide can help with tense muscles, but some research suggests it can ease general anxiety. can anyone corroborate?

Careful: Yes, there are a few studies indicating that magnesium can help anxiety -- but be careful if you have kidney disease.  Theory is that magnesium can sit on the nmda (excitatory) receptor and block it from excess stimulation.  With healthy kidneys and telling your doctor, you can safely experiment with 200-400 mg daily -- preferably taken separately from calcium.  Or, put epsom salts in your bath.

Yes: It could be any/all of those. Also, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, non-ulcer dyspepsia, esophageal spasm, fibromyalgia, pleurisy, costrochondritis, cervical spondylitis as well as a host of heart problems (but not heart failure).  Please see your doctor!

Pain: You need to determine the source of your pain by seeing your doctor.  This may be pinched nerves, anxiety, or a combo.  Using both MD help and a clinical psychologist who works w/pain management can be an effective way to treat.  Modalities such a biofeedback or clinical hypnosis (www.asch.net) after seeing doc can be very useful.  Peace and good health.

Anxiety: Can cause a whole array of uncomfortable symptoms.   Muscle tension in the neck can cause headaches.   Lightheadedness due to anxiety almost always comes from HYPERVENTILATION.   By breathing too often, too deeply, or too quickly, we lower our bodies carbon dioxide level.   This in turn can cause light-headedness.   Focus on breathing from your diaphragm, not your lungs.   Or use a paper bag.
