is it normal to feel your temple veins?

Accepted Answer

Normal to see them.: Temporal veins are normally seen but not felt.  Temporal arteries can normally be felt with your fingers.

my 6 years old son was crying and screaming. then all the sudden i realized that his temple veins were bulging on both sides . is that normal?

Accepted Answer

Venous pressure: Anytime you scream or cry you increase the blood pressure in the veins and they tend to stand out.You just noticed something that is expected.It is not the reason he was screaming nor does it increase the significance.

temple vein on the one side a bit bulkier. can this lead to an aneurysm? no pain, slight shooting pains now and again, not often. are there any warning signs  of aneurysm before it actually occurs or preventative screening tests?

Yes : Ultrasound screening test aorta.
Signs of emergency ruptured bleeding Aorta aneurysm are;
Ripping tearing or sudden onset back or chest pain

what does it mean if you have visible bilateral temple veins/ arteries? they have a u shape on both sides. i have no symptoms but have noticed them recently. they become very prominent of i drink alcohol or exercise?

: This is normal. Exercise and alcohol may both increase blood flow thru them and they are bigger and more easily seen,  I would ask other men in your family if they also have a similar normal finding.

i'm seeing with an eye better than the other (long distance). that causes me eye fatigue and temple vein throbbing, but the eye exam results did not changed, what can i do ?

: There is not a simple answer. First you need to determine if this is new and whether both eyes are correctable to "perfect" with the optimal refraction (glases, etc). If it is not correctable to "perfect" and it's new, you need to see an ophthalmologist to check the cornea, lens and retina. If it's old (since birth), it may be amblyopia and nothing can be done.

every few weeks my temple artery/vein becomes prominent on my face. i think its an artery because i can feel a pulse. anyway, no symptoms or pain but why does this happen? it scares me each time and then it goes away. sometimes its both sides?

: If there is no associated pain, headache or vision change, do not concern much. Remind your doctor for a quick exam in the next visit. However, see your doctor right away if above symptoms develop.

i have had pressure on my left temple and a vein that has raised. what could be causing this? someone mentioned superficial thrombophlebitis?

See vein specialist.: Temporal veins can develop superficial phlebitis but this is rare.  Most commonly temporal veins can increase and decrease in size as normal variations depending on levels of hydration, stress, genetics and even sun exposure . It would be unlikely that the vein is causing you pressure but you should see a vein specialist for an evaluation.

Positional change.: The veins in the face just as the veins in the rest of the body change in size depending on changes in position as well as changes in levels of hydration and changes in pressure in the chest and abdominal cavity. In the face, the veins decrease with standing and increase with lying down.  Straining or laughing increase the the pressure in the chest which can increase the size of the facial veins.

Normal: It is normal to have veins around your temples, and these can become more visible as you get older.

Right temple: Some folks just have prominent veins on their temples, probably no problem.
