i had a drop in my temperature today below the coverline on my bbt chart at 5 days post ovulation does that mean i won't get a pregnant this cycle. ?

Temp is inaccurate: A drop in temperature is consistent with non-ovulation or a failure to conceive, but being late on your period and testing positive on a urine screen  is the only other way to know if you're pregnant other than HCG levels

is having bbt (basel temperature) consistently in the 96's pre-ovulation & low 97's post-ovulation to low ? i've read  bbt should be 97 pre & 98 post.

Unpredictable: Actually there has never been any evidence that checking temperatures improves pregnancy rates or correlates with fertility. Some believe it might decrease fertility by increasing stress. Regular sex still has a higher pregnancy rate than checking temperatures, mucous etc. And temperature is always relative to you normal temperature.

No ovulation: If a woman's body temperature is lower after supposed ovulation, she did not ovulate.

Day after: Usually happens the day after ovulation. But not a very accurate method for contraception and for trying to be pregnant. Try urine ovulation sticks.

i measure bbt. i had 3 risen temperatures for 3 days after ovulation (14th day) & then low temp for 5 days until today. is it normal? what to expect?

Normal: What you described is normal variation during a menstrual cycle and you should expect a normal next cycle unless you engaged in sex at the fertile period, in which case you could be pregnant. If you miss your period, do a home test 4-5 days after missed period, use first morning urine and follow the instructions in the kit, carefully.

i've read that a woman's body temperature rises right after ovulation. by how much does it rise and how long does it remain elevated? would the woman be able to tell if her temperature has risen just by how she feels?

BBT chart: A Basal Body Temperature chart (BBT) is used to detect the subtle effect of the rise in the female hormone progesterone in the second half of the menstrual cycle post ovulation. The temperature doesn't vary much over the baseline, but it will be sustained over the time it is present. You usually are unable to detect the rise just based upon how you feel. The temp should be taken in early a.m daily

do you track basal temperature every day of the month? even after ovulation?

Best to keep : tracking  basal temp, every day. This would likely give the most accurate charting and make it more useful. If a pregnancy starts the expected period would not happen and the temp would stay elevated in the post ovulation range, roughly 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit, above the pre ovulation level.

More to it than temp: More than temps you need to know if you are ovulating and do you have a regular period?  Body weight?  Health? I would be happy to do a consult with you

Ok: Although I am not a big fan of basal body temperature charts, you are using them, than typically, the temp drops prior to ovulation and than peaks approximately 36 hours later.  Problem is that by the time you get to peak, the egg is no longer viable or fertilize-able; and many women do not get the initial drop prior to ovulation.  Good luck.

Yes: Although bbts are not a very effective way of timing ovulation; in the classic situation, your temperature drops right before ovulation and than spikes approximately shortly later.  The egg is estimated to live for 12-24 hours so once you see the temperature peak, it is probably to late and you have missed ovulation.  The ovulation detection kits or odk are much more accurate in timing ovulation.
