Telogen effluvium: Each hair follicle has it's own growth and rest cycle.  Telogen effluvium occurs when follicles are influenced by major stress, hormonal influence and other triggers to enter the rest phase together.  When this happens many of your hairs fall out together.  The hairs will eventually regrow and enter their normal pattern, but it can be disconcerting.

Telogen Effluvium : Telogen effluvium often occurs about 3-4 months after extreme body stressors such as childbirth and a prolonged high fever. In most cases, it resolves without specific treatment in a few weeks to a couple of months. Although your telogen effluvium has lasted slightly longer than usual, it sounds as if your hair loss is improving. If you're still concerned, see a dermatologist.

Are you asking the difference between telogen effluvium and male pattern baldness?
The former does not result in long term thinning of the hair, you will just notice a lot of hair in the brush or shower for a while but then this will stop and hair will look normal. With the latter you will have thinning hair, especially on top, like a balding man :(

Growing hairs?: With telogen effluvium, the spots you develop can be without hair for several months.  When the hairs start to grow again, they will of course be very short, but they will regrow to normal length eventually.  This growth can take many months however, so patience is needed.  Hair grows very slowly, unfortunately.

: Telogen effluvium rarely lasts longer than six months, although some cases last longer.
If hair loss persists without new hair growth, you may have a condition called alopecia areata or totalist. 
You need to see your doctor for a complete exam along with blood tests.

: It is likely that telogen effluvium has resolved and  you are seeing the normal loss of 100 hairs / day.  It is normal to shed hairs on a daily basis.  Take some pictures of your self perhaps every two weeks to document if the loss is more than the regrowth.

Depends on you: In part this depends on how you got telogen effluvium. Cause shouldn't because they can be triggered by stress, crash dieting, physical trauma such as an automobile accident. surgery with a shock to the system. Certain medicines can also reduce it, you have to look at the long-haul and it comes back to normal over 6 to 9 months
