Depends : Depends a bit on location and how widespread your psoriasis is.  Topical options include steroid creams, vit d derivatives (dovonex and vectical), salicylic acid and coal tar preparations.  Sometimes i inject a diluted steroid into specific lesions with good results.  There are some biologic therapies such as enbrel, humira, and stelara (ustekinumab) that work well for widespread cases (check out the link below for more information).  I hope that helps.

Polytar (coal tar): I would answer no.  Polytar (coal tar) is an irritant and areas close to mucous membranes would be very sensitive.  You would never want to get it in your eyes, nose or mouth.  Some believe that a case can me made that it is a carcinogen.

None: The eye will not be affected by this if used properly .  Do not get it into your eyes.

Accepted Answer

Define "inflamed".: If you mean that there is an active infection in your scalp, i would seek treatment from your doctor or a dermatologist first. If you mean inflammation due to psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis, that's what polytar (coal tar) is for.

if i use coal tar shampoo for seborheic dematitis on scalp , wont it stain my blond hair ? is there an alternative that wont ?

Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo: you can use Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo 2% twice a week for 2weeks. followed by selsun shampoo. You may need prescription from your PCP

i got smelly,itchy,pimples,hot feelings on my scalp bad order coming out of it. i tried psoriatrax 5% coal tar shampoo + nizoral-ad shampoo?

Tinea capitus: A  number of scalp conditions could cause these symptoms.  Tinea capitus is a fungal infection of the scalp which causes itching, scaling, crusting, pustules and occassionally infection with bacteria (kerion).  Tinea capitus requires several weeks of oral antifungal medications with or without an antibacterial.  Your doctor can help you determine if this is what you have.

can i use coal tar shampoo on my pubic hair? for some reason all of my pubic hair follicles are inflamed and hurt to the bottom but not infected?

Accepted Answer

Avoid: waxing, shaving,tight thong undergarments and  body oils or lotion. Coal tar derivatives should not be used on the pubic area. Use only gentle shampoo or soap and a very thin layer of 1% hydrocortisone cream. If not red or swollen, I suggest calling your GYN.

Possibly: This is one of those problems where a visit to your doctor is necessary to figure out what's going on.  Only after a thorough evaluation, including examination and possibly labs and other tests, can your doctor correctly diagnose you and treat you effectively.
