i hit my head on the edge of wall when i was younger twice causing a pencil like dent in my forehead no medical treatment. now years later can i get medical treatment/ surgery? can brain damage be reversed? can anything be done for old tbi? please!!?

: The dent happened because your skull was probably soft at young age and there is no need to fix anything at this time. If there was true lesion below the skull at the time of the accident, e.g. epidural or subdural hematoma, it is too late and there is no benefit of doing something for that.

Not the TBI: Not a usual result from the tbi itself but may be due to the trauma that caused the tbi. Often the main concern after trauma is the major injury. After this is treated then many secondary injuries become evident. The neck may have been injured as well.

can the effects and symptoms of tbi come back?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Traumatic brain injury leaves permanent damage or scarring in the brain. Recovery happens as the brain learns and creates new pathways to work around some of the problems. Stress, physical illness, exhaustion and re-injury can all make symptoms temporarily return or show more, but then can get better again. A great reference is dr. Norman doidge's book, "the brain that changes itself.".

: If you have the desire and are feeling up to it, I don't think it'll cause any harm.

No.: There is no association between mild tbi and subsequent stroke.

is there a surgery to recover balance after tbi and it has been at least 3 years since the injury?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: You should discuss these findings with your doctor.  You could reopen the cervix to drain the fluid, but, given the paucity of symptoms, that may not be necessary.

Could be.: All those are symptoms of tbi but at 7 months things should be getting better not worse.  You might need a ct scan.

TBI: About 2 years after a tbi you should be just about where you are going to get back to.  Any other gains would be very slow.

Anyone can improve: The brain's capacity to grow and change has always been underrated. Helen keller was born deaf and blind- i doubt that your tbi is comparable to that. What you need is to work on exercising your brain by selecting those things that are currently difficult for you and practicing them each day. Remember that rehab is painful and there is no easy path to change.

regarding tbi.doctors say recovery occurs most in the first 6months.well if secondary bi occurs for 2months, recovery starts at the 2nd month right?

TBI: Usually the answer is yes . However back to back injuries can have a cumulative effect.Need evaluation by a specialist to get a more accurate assessment.
