i had the tarsal tunnel release surgery and plantar fasciitis surgery on 24 april. i will still be in a cast until 24 may. i have muscle spasm and cramping in my lower affected leg. do you have any advise to relieve this?

Call the surgeon: You should alert the surgeon about this problem. We need to make sure that you do not end up with a blood clot in the leg because of inactivity .

Upto a year: Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a compression neuropathy in which the tibial nerve is compressed as it travels through the tarsal tunnel. Patients  complain of numbness in the foot radiating to the big toe and the first three toes, pain, burning, shooting sensations, and tingling over the base of the foot and the heel. Long standing problem takes longer to recover even up to a year.

Tough to say: Without an exam.  It certainly could be, but an EMG, which I suspect you had in the past with your history, would be able to be compared with the previous and your answer would be forthcoming.

i was put in a boot a week ago after tarsal tunnel release. new bruising on side and under arch now that i'm walking. is this normal?

Varies: Some degree is swelling/ bruising tracking into the foot is common after tarsal tunnel release, I would make sure your surgeon is aware and that you have a follow up appointment to be checked.

Go see your surgeon: Your surgeon should have given you post-operative instructions plus enough pain medication to control expected amount/duration of pain. If that amount &amp; dose are not enough, then you need to contact surgeon about possible complication causing unbearable pain. Don't wait.

Be patient: If this has been a long standing issue, full recovery to the nerve can take quite a while! Be patient and give the postop course time. Stay compliant with your followup care.  Good luck!

Caution: I think conservative treatment should be exhausted before contemplating surgical treatment. If all else fails then surgery really becomes the option.
