what's the main difference between cellufresh and systane?

Eye drops: Cellufresh is an isotonic formulation and contains carboxymethylcellulose sodium 5 mg/ml, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, Calcium Chloride dihydrate, magnesium chloride and purified water.

Systane contains propylene glycol 0.6% and is really a lubricant.

Allergic reaction: Systane (and most other lubricant eyedrops) are very, very safe - no systemic absorption, they just make a lubricant barrier on the eye. That being said, people can have allergic reactions to nearly anything, so there is always that (albeit small) risk.

Systane: Systane is reported to be an ocular lubricant containing polyethylene glycol w propylene glycol. I did not see steroids listed. This class of medication is fda category c. Recommend discussing this with your ob.

two nights ago i scratched my eye by accident (used a double-sided dental pick, got startled by something, poked my eye via that) i've kept it closed on/off since, using systane to help with irritation/pain, but it still hurts. any advice or tips?

: You likely have a corneal abrasion or worse, a laceration. Go get this checked out by an ophthalmologist. You don't want to mess around with your eyesight!

Lubricant eye drops: Yes you can use any of the many lubricant eye drops for temporary relief. Remember to continue seeing your ophthalmologist while keratitis is active.

Naso-Lacrymal duct: The eye fluids normally drain into the nose through the nasolacrymal duct that starts at the inner end of the eye and drains into the nose. From the nose it can drain into the throat. So any drops added into the eye can affect the nasal mucosa and be tasted by reaching the throat. It would be prudent to see a doctor for a more effective treatment for the eye issue.

A variant: Systane is a slightly thicker tear replacement which I call syrupy.  It will cling to the eye a little longer, providing more lengthy relief than ordinary tear replacements.  So commonly it is used less often although in extremely dry eyes the  schedule is very frequent.
