4-21-14 thyroidectomy r/t thyroiditis, goiter.  on synthroid (thyroxine) 137 mcg- hypo s/s returning have felt great for months.  would adding cytomel help?

Adjust the dose: Many things affect the TSH level. Tissue in the body has the ability to convert T4 to T3 when needed. There are many things that can alter synthroid (thyroxine) absorption. See if you started taking your medication with food or antacids. This commonly lowers absorption of synthroid (thyroxine), leading to symptoms of hypothyroidism. Meet with your doc to recheck TSH level and have synthroid (thyroxine) redosed.

i have hypothyroidism and im on synthroid (thyroxine) 137 mcg 1/2 tab daily. my last blood test showed... tsh: 0.89, free t4: 1.9. is this to high?

It's OK: Hi. That TSH and free T4 are OK. The free T4 is just barely above the upper end of normal in most labs, and your TSH is fine. If you feel normal, there'd be no compelling reason to lower your dose. If you feel hyperthyroid in any way, you could try a lower dose. I'd repeat those labs in 2 months to assess stability. i dont'n know what cause this big change?

Actually: in the "low" TSH "range" there is not a lot of difference in those values. You indicate that thyroid medication is being given for a thyroid cancer of some kind and that RAI has not been given. I therefore "assume  that your Physician (?Endocrinologist) is trying to SURPRESS your TSH (thus the 0.14 is BETTER than the 1.54 readings!!
SO IT'S NOT REALLY A "BIG CHANGE " and in fact is BETTER..!!!

i'm taking 1 tablet daily of 125mcg synthroid, which was changed up from 112 mcg synthroid. what can i do with the 112mcg synthroid so that i'm not going to waste them? i was thinking that i can take 2 of the 112mcg synthroid in place of the 125mcg?

: No, that will be too much Synthroid to take 2 x112 instead of 125 mcg as prescribed, will be almost twice the dose. Talk to the pharmacist about best use of your remaining 112 mcg pills and take for now the 125 mcg pills as prescribed.

Yes: Sure, if it is too much. Have your doctor measure serum T4 and tsh, and adjust the dose.

Yes : Yes.  That seems like an abnormally large dose.

Yes if needed: An increase in dose of synthroid, (thyroxine) even a small increase, can certainly normalize your blood levels, and many people can "feel" the difference in their energy level.

Yes: I don't think that makes that much difference if the dose is appropriate.

Synthroid (thyroxine): Absolutely.  Remember to take synthroid (thyroxine) on an empty stomach.  It works better that way.  Take it just an hour before you eat.

Yes: A little extra will make no difference but your prescription may run out early so notify you doctor.
