30-60 minutes: Most arthroscopic synovectomies probably take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how extensive and the amount of bleeding and visibility.

Arthritis?: Most patients requiring a synovectomy, especially those 50 years and above, have osteoarthritis. Stairs place a significant load on the knee joints, and many patients with various types of knee problems hurt when going up and down stairs. It would be worthwhile to follow up with your orthopedic doctor for a reassessment and discussion of treatment options. Repeat x-rays could be helpful.

Synovium : Synovium is a soft tissue structure, it is part of the anatomy of the knee. A synovectomy means the doctor plans on removing this lining or a piece of it likely because it is no longer functioing properly, and it is damaged.

No Data: I am unaware of any reputable study deonstrating the effectiveness of "joint supplements" such as glucosamine and chondroitin supdate (or their equivalents). Taking them probably won't hurt. Nor will it likely help. 
But I am a believer in discussing things with you physician first.

This is due to bleed: Since not all of the synovium was  removed there may be persistent synovitis. The question also is do you still have  bleeding into the joint. Have  you had a post  operative  MRI to see if  synovitis  persists? You of course  also need  persistent  exercise to make certain the  surrounding musculature is good and stays  strong to support the knee. You need  to discuss  with  your doctor.

Call your surgeon: This is not a sign of PVNS recurrence.   This also does not sound like any problem with the surgery or anything dangerous.  It is most likely bleeding from the surgery coming to the surface.  You should still call your surgeon.  This is the best person to tell you if it is OK to ignore or needs to be checked.

Call your physician: Its really difficult to tell. Thigh pain can be common following surgery due to the procedure as well as the possible tourniquet used. Your surgeon will know the specific details of your case and be able to offer you guidance. Another visit to their office might be necessary to exam your leg and look for signs of infection, dvt, or tell if its just expected post op findings.

8-12 weeks to start: Isolated lateral releases done arthroscopically take several months to improve. First the wound pain takes a while, then getting comfortable with the adjusted tracking of the patella position takes time. For some improvement is faster than others. Quad strengthening takes months to maximize as well.

It depends: On the joint and the amount of stiffness you had before in the joint, it could take from few weeks to month.
