10 month old had 2 uti's , had symptoms for #3 in less 2 months.. on meds. culture neg, waiting to do tests could teething cause high white blood cells?

Accepted Answer

No: Teething does not cause an elevation of your white blood cell count.  An elevated WBC count a this age is almost always due to an infection somewhere, and with a history of uti's already i would be looking in this area. It could be a kidney abcess, blood infection, or infection totally somewhere else in the body. There are other more rare causes of elevated wbc's, but teething is not one of them.

can teething cause on and off fevers in a 10 month old ? and diaherra?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Teething causes an inflammatory process that releases prostoglandins and increases temp slightly as well as causes diarrhea. Children's Ibuprofen will help with the prostin release.

is it normal for my 10 month old gums to be black and is it caused by teething?

Accepted Answer

Teething: If the gums are black in spots where the teeth are coming through then yes it an be teething. If it is a more generalized black gums, they should be evaluated for bleeding or possibly lead exposure.

is it normal fora 10 month old to wake up after six hours of sleep to eat? shouldn't they be sleeping through the night?  not teething.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Although 10 month old babies sleep longer six hours is not an unusual or rare interval time to wake up and eat especially if they are still breast feeding. Teething is another reason they would wake up.

Accepted Answer

No: Allergies are not related to the teething process.

should you give a 10 month old gripe water everyday to help them sleep or for teething, a cap full in every bottle and 2 at night?

Accepted Answer

Usually no. : Gripe water is usually used for stomach upset, gasiness, colic. I haven't found that for my patients it's particularly helpful for teething. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen is typically better.

my 10 month old son has  red bumps on his cheeks and when i touch them they are warm, he is teething could that be the cause?

Accepted Answer

Doubtful: While teething may cause a bit of irritability and very low grade temperature, unless the bumps are from the excessive drooling (and this is usually right around the mouth), bumps on cheeks and other places would not be attributable to teething. It may be a little heat rash, irritation from something that contacted his cheeks (detergents, soaps, perfumes, etc). Would just keep an eye on things.

my 10 month old baby. poo 5 to 6 times in a day with foul smell also his poo is little watery and starchy,he is teething also.what food sud i give?

BRAT diet: We generally recommend the 'BRAT' diet for people with diarrhea, as it contains foods which help bind the stools.  Things like Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast, plain chicken, pastas, etc.  Electrolyte solutions such as Pedialyte help prevent dehydration and are better than sugary sodas or juices, which can make diarrhea worse.  Some people need to avoid dairy while they are having loose stools.

10 month old refuses to eat.(spoon or fingers)she only drinks from her bottle. she is teething but it's never been an issue when eating. what do i do?

Accepted Answer

Give her a few days: to come around.  As long as she is taking the bottle, she is getting fluids and nourishment.  These current teeth may be uncomfortable and the bottle is comforting.  Limit juice to a maximum of 4 oz, limit milk/formula to 32 oz and offer unlimited water.  Keep offering small amounts of solids. In a few days, she will become interested again.

my 10 month old daughter has been congested for about two weeks. also, her stools have been loose when once before they were solid. is it teething?

Accepted Answer

Maybe,maybe not: The average infant is due for 5-7 respiratory infections & 1-2 diarrhea infections /yr until the age of 5. They also fill their mouth wit 20 teeth over the same period. Whether teething actually exists  or is just used an an acceptable excuse is really just a mater of speculation. Even the decline in fussiness when they chew on a teething ring doesn't clearly answer that question.
