vitreous degeneration vs pvd--different symptoms?

Same: Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) occurs when the vitreous gel becomes more like a liquid.  The solid component of the gel floats in the liquid component of the gel.  This liquefaction process is basically vitreous "degeneration."  the symptoms are floaters (black spots, cobwebs, bugs) and sometimes flashes of light.

optometrist found no tears, and he thinks it's early pvd. symptoms suddenly started a month ago, i am constantly getting flashes of light in my peripherals everytime i blink or look around, is that normal for pvd? do the flashes ever stop or lessen?

: I hope he performed a dilated retinal exam, if you are still having symptoms see an ophthalmologist for a dilated exam with scleral depression if needed.  Better to  be safe than sorry.

No: Pvd is inadequate blood flow to the lower extremities. There are several risk factors, e.g. High blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, elevated cholesterol, family history, elevated uric acid levels in the blood.

yes: The flashing lights (photopsias) are due to light attachments between the vitreous edge and the underlying retina as it transitions to liquid.  Mostly there are no such connections, therefore no light flashes. This is in fact the case with most people.

Same risk of RD: The anterior hyaloid face is juxtaposed to the posterior  capsule of  the  lens. The vitreous base is adjacent to the ora serrata. Any anterior segment trauma, including complicated cataract surgery, can cause either of these regions of the vitreous to involute before the posterior vitreous.  Changes in the vitreous composition account for the high rate of pvd.  Retinal tears cause the rd.

i have a history of posterior uveitis right eye (5 years ago) and had a pvd in my right eye 6 years ago. cataract surgery 2 years ago. monday i noticed a new small black floater in addition to old floaters. no other eye symptoms
should i be seen?

Yes: it may be nothing significant but with your ocular history, you should have a dilated examination of the eye.

PVD: Pvd can be asymptomatic, the commonest symptom is limb fatigue or cramping with exercise. When limb pain is happening at rest with dvd one may need surgery or stenting procedures to save the limb.

PVD: Pvd is gradual obliteration of lumen of peripheral (usually lower extremities) arteries by atherosclerotic process. This causes what is called ischemia resulting in claudication.  Pain/ cramping of the legs. When you have pvd! you should also be tested for coronary artery disease.

Need more info: In what way is your vision worse? Is it correctable with glasses or change in glasses?  Are things blurry all the time or episodic? Do you see a large shadow? Do you see a lot of floaters?  Pvd can cause bleeding in the eye, retinal tears or detachments which can all affect your vision. Theoretically your anatomy can mildly change and affect your vision refractively... Your eyemd can better answer.
