i went to the er last night for a possible thyroid problems. had a lot of syptoms for hyper but thyroid test normal and xray showed no swelling. is it possible my hyperthyroidism isnt showing on thyroid test?

No: If you have symptoms of hyperthyroidism, the blood tests should already showed it. At least the TSH should be low. If everything were normal, then it's something else causing your symptoms. Please see your primary care physician to start evaluating this. Good luck.

my drs. say i have to get a ct scan with iodine contrast, i am very scared that this will cause thyroid problems. i have subclinical hyperthyroidism and not on any treatment, it is waiting and watch currently. i am afraid it will cause serious issues?

: Iodinated contrast exposure doesn't affect thyroid tests in people with a normal thyroid but you're correct in being concerned that your exposure could aggravate your subclinical hyperthyroidism.  A thyroidologist or endocrinologist is best to advise you about this matter.

Some symptoms are difficulty concentrating, fatigue, large thyroid in neck, frequent bowel movements, increased appetite, heat intolerance, increased sweating, irregular menstrual periods in women, nervousness, restlessness, weight loss, high blood pressure, hair loss, tremors, itching, diarrhea, upset stomach, eyes protruding (exophthalmos).

Thyroid nodule: If you're having symptoms or hyperthyroid, need to return to fp or see endocrinologist for thyroid function tests as well as thyroid ultra-sound/scan/biopsy to determine nature of nodule. If benign, there are medications to help control overactive thyroid, or if necessary, part of the gland can be removed. Docs can advise you best after tests.

Overactive thyroid: Some symptoms of hyperthyroidism are: feeling nervous, fast heartbeat, weight loss, feeling hot, trouble sleeping, feeling anxious, sweating heavily, muscle weakness, increased appetite, frequent bowel movement...Some hyperthyroid patients will have 1-2 symptoms, some have all of them and some have none of them at all. The only way to know for sure is to get a blood test.

Imaging,lab tests: First visit your primary care doc. Get examined clinacally, to exclude lymphn. Need to r/o simple overactive thyroid  versus hyperactive thyroid cancers. Need thyroid function tests -a set of blood tests to be done in addition to lipid profile, CBC to r/o anemia which can result from thryoid dz, alkaline phosphatase from high from bone turnover in overactive dz .Also need to get thyroid ultrasound.
