nine months ago i had transvaginal ultrasound of my pelvis with all findings normal along with normal pap test. is it possible for symptomatic ovarian or pelvic cancer to develop in nine months? i am working with my pcp on symptoms of perimenopause?

: You should only pay attention to what you can control or change, do not worry too much. Please follow with your family doctor for managing perimenopausal syndrome.

Regular periods: When a woman has regular periods, likelihood is high that the hormonal feedback cycle between the mid-brain and the ovaries works O.K. and that there is adequate hormone production. That does not tell, though, if there is physical obstruction, e.g., after chlamydia infection, that prevents sperm and egg from meeting after ovulation.

Accidental?: Not sure how one would have an accidental ovarian removal. If one ovary is removed then there should be no changes. If both ovaries are removed then one expects menopause to start almost immediately.

Depends on the pt: Not sure why an ovary would be 'accidentally' removed....

For a young woman who retains her other ovary, the symptoms would be minimal.  She would have diminished ovarian reserve as she ages relative to if she were to have two ovaries.

For a 53 year old woman (if this is regarding yourself) then there should be no issues at all, since the ovary isn't doing much anymore anyway

Injections: The best way to insure that the correct ovary ovulates is a low dose of fertility shots. Pills are not as powerful and essentially give a 50% chance of ovulating on the useful side. Unfortunately there are really no other options.

i was just diagnosed with poly cystic ovary syndrome. i've heard of women reversing their symptoms through a certain diet. what should my diet be?

Diabetic diet: Most PCOs patients have insulin resistance like an early diabetic, so eating a low carb diet and making sure to get a good dose of vitamin D is helpful, though it won't reverse things in most women, just help.

i have a pain along my left and right side leading to my ovaries and around to my back, no other symptoms, just in horrible pain. what could this be?

Endometriosis : If the pain is cyclical that means if it comes with your periods and starts a few weeks before your period , or if it gets worse during your periods it could be due to endometriosis . If you have a discharge with odor or urinary symptoms of pain and discomfort it could be pelvic infection or UTI . I suggest you see your gynecologist soon.

how can you tell if only one of your ovarys is working? and should i be concern?

Do not worry: Monitoring for ovulation with transvaginal ultrasound will confirm if both ovaries are working, but you'd have to do it for several months, maybe up to a year to be absolutely certain.  At 20 years old (is this correct?) it would be r-e-a-l-l-y unusual for one ovary to not work unless you've had some sort of surgical problem with that ovary. Why do you think only one ovary works?
