i'm having several symptoms of sensory nerve damage in my back.work comp dr says its only a muscle strain its been 6 wks. why isnt it getting better?

Bad Back: Unfortunately,  back pain can take a really long time to improve with or without nerve injury however, if your symptoms persists longer than 2 months, you should ask for a referral to see a spine specialist. Take care!

Pain may be present: A "pinched nerve" in the back can cause radiating pain down a leg.  Some ms pts get diffuse leg pains and cramps.  A ruptured disc can cause numbness and weakness in one or both legs, and can seem similar to ms.  A neurological exam however, can sort out spinal cord (ms), and nerve roots (low back issues) for example.

I suppose: I suppose you could say that but nerve pain from a specific spinal nerve is usually more well defined and produce more acute pain than ms.

Nerve damage?: After a shot, some swelling may give you numbness, but it should improve, talk to yor pain doctor if persist.

Yes: It can cause pain , weakness , numbness , burning pain, spasm, or coldness or other more bizarre symptoms in the innervated areas.,

Nerve Compression: The answer is possibly.  Without knowing the specifics of your case it is hard to know the place and extent of the injury.

was taking 5400 mg of dlpa daily for about 2 weeks. started feeling the symptoms of nerve damage (pain, numbness, tingling). could this be permanent?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Some toxic neuropathies can be reversed if the offending agent can be removed.  The issue is what type of damage was caused and how severe it is.  This will determine if and how long it will take to regenerate.  If you had intermittent symptoms this is the mildest form. If the symptoms were persistent only time will tell

how can you distinguish the symptoms of parkinson's disease and symptoms of nerve damage?

See below: Trauma to peripheral nerve causes local pain, numbness, weakness.  Parkinson's, affects older males more than females, and is associated with resting tremor, gait imbalance, muscular stiffness, masked facies, perhaps loss of cognition, trouble swallowing, constipation, etc.  A good neurologist can sort this out and direct therapy.

can marijuana worsen symptoms of nerve damage from b12 deficiency if so can it be reversed so i can smoke again? don't tell me its bad for me etc..

Don't know of...: Any data on effects of weed on neuro effects of B12 deficiency. Neuro effects of B12 deficiency often (not always) reversible (at least somewhat, if not totally), with appropriate rx.

can nerve damage be corrected? i've been having all symptoms of nerve damage in my legs, & left arm.  what r the treatments cuz i'm terrified. thanks!

Possibly: There are many causes of neuropathy  some of which are reversible ( for example: significant hypothyroidism can be associated with neuropathies which can resolve with thyroid replacement Rx). The same is true for certain vitamin deficiency states.  You should consider seeing a Neurologist to determine what type of neuropathy you have/What's causing it/what therapy could help.
