TSH 28: You can be surprisingly asymtomatic with hypothyroidism but  on  a cellular level the body is not at optimal performance and over a long time it will take its toll . Please f/u w/ you endocrinologist and take your thyroid medicine.

Of course: B"sd Naturethyroid and Armour thyroid are made of dessicated livestock thyroid - I believe manufactured at the same facility.  Accordingly, they contain the mix of thryoid hormones found in barns and pastures and have a bit more T3 - cytomel, (liothyronine) relative to T4-synthroid. Much more convenient than split does replacement, but on the other hand allow for less flexible dosing plan s. Glad to discuss

might a thyroidectomy resolve the problems i have due to my hypothyroidism?

Not likely: If you are having problems related to the size of your thyroid, such as choking symptoms, trouble swallowing or breathing, then thyroidectomy might help.  If you are hypothyroid, your thyroid does not function well. Taking it out will not change that. Most people with hypothyroidism do not need to have their thyroid removed.

Yes: Must be on thyroid hormone replacement and make sure your on correct dose.

i am hypothyroid from a partial thyroidectomy. i have recently adopted a pescatarian diet. should i avoid goitrogenic fruits and veggies or are they ok to eat? thank you.

Diet: Does not alter your thyroid level unless your the iodine in your diet is insufficient which is unlikely in developed countries where salt is fortified with iodine.  Have your doctor monitor your TSH. Enjoy any healthy diet of choice and take your thyroid medications as prescribed

Could be: Thyroid disorders can cause several issues, including but not limited to cold or heat intolerance, etc.  Other conditions, unrelated to thyroid can be a causative factor such as raynaud's syndrome, where a person can get cold feet and even cold hands at times.  If the symptoms cause a major problem in your life, seek an evaluation for possible causes, as there can be tx to help. Best wishes.

i am hypothyroid after having a total thyroidectomy in nov 2012. when will my hair loss stop?

Under control: Your hair loss should get better once your thyroid hormones are controlled, this is normally achieved via taking a thyroid hormone pill and getting bloodwork, if not, other reasons for hair loss should be checked.

Common: Hard to explain, but common finding. Many people with normal thyroids and circulation complain of this. If your TSH is normal there is no contribution from the thyroid.

In severe cases, especially in the older population, hypothyroidism can lead to a coma/death.
