Lip swelling: This can also be a kind of allergic reaction to medication or a blood chemical deficiency.  If it happens often, see an allergist for an evaluation.  If your tongue  swells, too, then you should go to the er for urgent treatment.

Possibly: It is true that some cold sores on the lips are a form of herpes called herpes simplex type 1. This does not mean that you have genital herpes. Herpes viruses are common and many people get cold sores. If they are frequent then there are medications that your doctor can prescribe treat this type of herpes.

i had a cold sore on the upside of my upper lip 3-4 weeks ago. it was a big sore, it has healed but left a pinkish mark on the area. i have touched on a new born hairy head with my lips very gently, didnt kiss. is it possible that i passed herpes?

: If you do not have open lesion nor any lesion on the baby's head you could not have transmitted herpes; however it is best not to kiss any baby on the lips because absence of open lesion does not mean that herpes could not be transferred. If you are the mother and it is a newborn, I would say to have prompt evaluation and tell doctor if any fever or rash on the baby.

i have herpes type ii. for a month now ive had tingling & burning sensation & lip quivering on my upper lip but no cold sore has appeared. ive taken valacyclovir 1 g for 14 days but has not relieved symptoms am i having an outbreak? or something else

Not herpes: To be sure you understand: HSV2 is the virus, not the disease. Genital herpes can be caused by either HSV1 or 2, but HSV2 infrequently infects the mouth -- i.e. most people with genital HSV2 never get cold sores from it. Herpes doesn&#x27;t cause &quot;tingling and burning&quot; without visible sores, and herpes outbreaks never last a whole month. And non-improvement on valacyclovir confirms it&#x27;s not herpes.

as a follow up lip herpes, ganglion on neck, increased athletes foot, swollen and raw throat behind the uvula, could it be confused with hiv?

HIV disease: If you are concerned that you may have been exposed to HIV you should go and be tested as quickly as is feasible.  Hopefully this will be negative but if not, early diagnosis and management are best.  The elements of "illness" that you have had sound like coincidence rather than immune deficiency.

does hepres 1 cause sore throat and sore lymph nodes? i've been under alot of stress and i'm experiencing my first outbreak of herpes 1. it's sore under my chin to my throat  nothing is swollen. i have a small cold sore on my lip on right side

Herpes 1: Often the first episode of a cold sore outbreak is associated with throat soreness and swollen lymph glands. Oral and topical antiviral medications may shorten duration of symptoms, especially if used early. Future outbreaks may occur and have less symptoms except the cold sore eruption. Your pharmacist can recommend some nonprescription medications for you.

Allergy vs. infectio: I do not know how long this has been happening or whether you have and other skin findings.  Based on what you have shared it could be and allergy like urticaria or a contact dermaitis or an infection.  You should have it evaluated by your dermatologist.

Probably Allergy: Take some allergy pill like Claritin/Zyrtec or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and see if it helps with the lip swelling. Check your temp to make sure you dont have fever. If you have any other symptom like sore throat or feel any bumps in mouth or tongue, a quick trip to the local urgent care clinic like Wallgreens or CVS would be a good idea to get it checked out. Feel better.
