Feel it: Normally, you are able to feel both of your submandibular gland's just behind the midportion of your jaw on each side. They should be of similar size and consistency, and neither one should be tender or enlarged. If one of them is bigger or more tender than the other, then it is likely swollen. If the swelling does not go down you should be seen by an ENT doctor

Pain?: Swollen glands usually (but not always) hurt a little.  It's not odd that they feel like a grape, but if they hurt, are hot, or your lymph nodes are swollen, there could be an issue (possibly serious).  I always check these at exams; your dentist should too.  If in doubt, have an raise the question at your next appointment; if in pain, make that appointment right away.

3-4 weeks : It frequently takes some time for the gland to return entirely to normal.  You should see your physician for an evaluation to look for a stone in the gland that could be causing obstruction of the submandibular duct.  Suggest in the meantime that you massage the gland from back to front several times per day.  Also place lemon juice or sour candy in your mouth 3 times per day.
