Water retention: Other than thyroid the reasons for water retention need to evaluated, cardiac, liver, kidney or nutrition related. Talk to to your doctor.

hi i had my gall bladder removed two weeks ago via keyhole and my stomach is still swollen and hard. is this normal? the incisions have mostly healed apart from my belly button which is still really sore, especially to touch

Inflammation : Colitis is inflammation of the colon and symptoms can vary from just bloating and cramps to full blown diarrhea and pain. Some colitis is self limited and some chronic. Often, a colonoscopy needs to be performed to find the origin.

LUQ anatomy: Anatomically, the left upper quadrant (luq) of abdomen includes: spleen, pancreatic tail, stomach, descending duodenum, splenic flexure of the colon, associated vessels. Don't forget the diaphragm, heart, and lower chest are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, and skin can all contribute as well to localizing luq pain. Persistent or recurrent pain warrants at least evaluation.

Get seen.: Abdominal pain lasting for more than 4 days is too long!  Call your doc or get seen.  IF the pain is constant, you are still vomiting, or have fever, dizziness, or black or bloody stools, go to the ER. If not and can't reach doc tonight, go to an UC tomorrow.  No ibuprofen, aspirin or naproxen for now please!

See a doctor: Impossible to know what is causing intestinal 'gurgling', but unless it is bothering you intensely suspect it may be related to your diet or a transient issue that will resolve itself.  The major parasite you are likely to get in usa is giardia (a protozoan) which can be diagnosed easily.  Very few people in this country have "worms" unless there is a very specific risk factor.
