i've had swollen lymph nodes on my neck for 3 months. they get bigger and smaller constantly, they never stay the same size. should i be worried?

Lymph nodes: it is important to distinguish reactive versus malignant lymphadenopathy. Where on the neck do you palpate these lymph nodes?
It is usually more worrisome if there are palpable on the back of your neck or on the side rather than in front.  lymph nodes  could be swollen due to : a recent upper respiratory infection, toothache, ear infection, etc...

Lymph nodes. : If you have many lymph nodes appearing in your neck, a more direct diagnostic approach would be to have one or more of the nodes removed and sent to a laboratory for evaluation.   Especially if you've already tested negative for HIV.

what do you suggest if my little boy (3) has had a swollen lymph nodes in groin and neck for months but bloods all normal?

2 options: If he is seemingly healthy, active, appetite good and no other symptoms, I would recommend watchful waiting. If any concurrent symptoms, he just isn't himself, poor growth or weight loss, fevers, then I would suggest a biopsy of one of the nodes. Make sure he has also had a TB test done as well. Also, if you have a cat, have him checked for cat-scratch disease (blood test).

Swollen nodes: For peace of mind, see your doctor so he can examine you and get the proper blood work to rule out lymphoma

Lymph nodes swollen: Greetings. The likelihood that your 3 year old has any form of cancer is very small. Young children have a very reactive immune system and adenoid swelling like I think you are describing often links with tonsil and lymph node activation then reactive swelling. Have your child see the Pediatrician for confirmation but rest assured this sounds more normal than cancerous.

Need ID consult: There are several other infectious disease agents that can cause lymph node swelling and give you constitutional symptoms and elevated lymphocytes.  You should see an infectious disease specialist to get those additional testing, including tuberculosis testing and fungal testing.

More info needed: More evaluation may be required. Depending on what blood tests were already done, more may be needed. Also, imaging studies, usually starting with an ultrasound may be able to help determine cause. There are many causes of swollen lymph nodes and from your question, more work up is likely needed.

See below : It's great that u saw a doctor for the lymph nodes. I assume your doctor is monitoring them. If there is no evident cause for your lymph nodes and they are growing then a biopsy would probably be a good idea at this point. I would revisit your doctor and tell him/her that it's growing. Go see your DR: Most lymph nodes are benign/non-cancerous and can be due to recurring infection in your throat and surrounding skin.
But if they are numerous and getting bigger, you may need to be biopsied to rule out any serious ailment including lymphoma.
