Many reasons: L lymph nodes can be a large because they may drain infection, they may be more of a systemic inflammatory , if they were one side suggested may well be a local area. Your physician should be able to help clarify why they're swollen. I am uncertain if there's any relationship to your cycle

Many Causes: There are many causes of swollen lymph-nodes.  The most common is some type of infection by a bacteria or virus.  More serious examples of this are STDs, Infectious Mononucleosis and HIV.   They can also be caused Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and cancer.   Its important  to have them evaluated if they are persistent.

They may refer your to an ENT physician for more definitive studies. Meanwhile, stop chewing - get help.
