i have noticed some swollen lymph node on my neck lately and have tested negative for hiv with 4th generation lab test at 6 months should i retest or seek other reasons for this? just trying to get some proper information since the web is everywhere?

: You did not get HIV from the episode 6 months ago. You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!

can hiv symptoms first arise after 60 days? sore neck maybe swollen lymph node behind ear by jaw? tested negative at 33 days duo 4th gen hiv test. am i over reacting? please help?

: No, 60 days is too late. And the negative test proves HIV is not a possible cause of your symptoms. Nobody can ever have HIV symptoms with a negative 4th generation blood test. And your symptoms do not sound like HIV anyway. See a doctor if the problem doesn't clear up soon.

is a neg strep test always right? i got 2 done within days apart from having a sore throat on and off with swollen lymph nodes for 2-3 weeks. sore throat eventually went away but neck still feels tight/swollen. i don't have a pcp?

: Most infections like yours are due to viruses, not strep; you can believe the test result, you don't have strep throat. Mononucleosis is possible, especially with symptom persisting more than 2 weeks -- but rare t your age. If your symptoms continue, find a physician for in-person evaluation and advice. Good luck.

Probably virus: Your description is that of a typical viral pharyngitis. If the sore throat persists longer than two more weeks, then take him back to the doctor.  Seems as though the doctor did all that is indicated in this case from your brief description.

i had a pea sized swollen lymph node on my neck about a year ago, now there are ones swollen all over neck and i am itchy. what tests to ask for?

See A surgeon.: If you have had so many lymph nodes for this long, and they are not resolving, they need to be biopsied. See a surgeon.

Hard to say: The doc had the benefit of an exam, which does provide some important information. Most nodal enlargement peaks within a week or so and declines over a 3-4 week period if the nodes are working correctly. Sometimes they need antibiotic support to kill the germs within, or need to be drained. Sometimes they are a signal to a more important condition that tests would define.

What did Dr say?: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician &amp; get a strep throat test &amp; culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat.  Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mix of chamomile tea w honey &amp; a small amt of lemon juice helps.

See doctor: You sound like you have seen a doctor. You need firm ether evaluation. Go back to doctor for complete evaluation.

have ear pain & swollen lymph nodes with slight sore throat. was treated for strep right before this and now testing negative and dont have ear infection but now dealing with these issues. why could this be? or what could be the cause?

: It takes time for the reactive lymph nodes to come back to their original sizes. You can gargle your throat with warm salt water several times a day and take tylenol if needed for sore throat for a couple days. You should be fine, take care!

Reactive: The vast majority of swollen lymph nodes "react" to viral infections.  This is their job description.  They enlarge to help fight the infection. It it's larger than a marble or has been their for more than 2 weeks, have your doctor take a look at it.  In your case, be sure you're seen, .
