what should i expect?
i have had swollen glands for 4 months (doc said their mobile, which is good), recurring fever, and low wbc and lymphocyte counts. i am getting an ultrasound of my lymph nodes monday.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It may require removal of one of the nodes and examination of tissue by a pathologist.

Worth getting checkd: Often times swollen glands are simply your body fighting off an infecton, and can sometimes stay swollen for some time.  However, i advise getting these checked if they stay swollen for more than a few weeks.  Usually some simple blood tests are adequate, or sometimes a biopsy of the glands nearest the skin surface.

Not likely for you: Your age argues against this being a cancer.  It is suspicious for some kind of infection or inflammatory problem.  Consider seeing a surgeon or dermatologist to discuss the possibility of hidradenitis.

Hard to say: Hard to say because of lacking info.  Did the first antibiotics give you any relief, or not at all, how was the 2nd abx? I need to know their names because I have to estimate any resistance developed over the past years etc. By germs usually in ears. Some times the dose/ frequency/ duration of taking pills counts as well.

Pediatrician: Do not only listen to the ultrasound tech, take the child to her pediatrician (or whatever doctor ordered the ultrasound) to help sort out what the ultrasound shows and what it could be. She might require further testing.

Not necessarily: Something is wrong, but it doesn't mean cancer. What you describe could be an infection, a cyst, or a tumor, but it definitely needs to be diagnosed! see a doctor right away. That lump probably needs to be biopsied, and you may need a ct scan or other imaging. Don't let fear of cancer delay your diagnosis!

Lymphadenopathy: Enlargement of the lymph nodes is recognized as a common sign of infectious, autoimmune, or malignant disease.  Most commonly, in healthy individuals, the glands (lymph nodes) will enlarge as they work to fight off infections, be they viral and or bacterial...For example a child with a sore throat may develop associated swollen glands.  If they stay enlarged, then seek medical attention.

Lymph nodes: Which glands (lymph nodes) are you referring to?  If you have swollen lymph nodes in the neck and a recent upper respiratory infection, that may be normal.  If you have lymph nodes in other areas like the arm pit or groin or the ones in the neck that don't go away, you need to see a doctor for evaluation.
