i have sore swollen gland underneath the ear, cheek swollen inside mouth and bad taste in the mouth. what  would cause this? dentist or dr. problem?

Parotitis: Parotitis is an inflammation of the parotid gland, which is a salivary gland on the side of the face just in front of and under the ear.  Given the associated bad taste, i suspect you may have a bacterial infection of that gland and a course of antibiotics is recommended.  You can see your primary care physician for this problem.

: The lump is most probably a lymph node, which enlarges when there is an infection. This would explain why it shrinks when you are being treated with antibiotics. Local enlarged lymph nodes indicate an infection in that area of the body. If it is by your neck/jaw/cheek region, then the infection can be related to teeth, throat, ear or sinuses. Talk to your Dr for further exam.

: Mefac is a NSAID which can be used for acute pain if you do not have problem with stomach, kidneys or blood pressure. You should take with foods to protect your stomach and do not take routinely after one week. Stop the medication if you have upset stomach or symptom of indigestion. Hope you will get better soon.

: Now that the parotid gland stone has been ruled out, follow up with the same Dr for next steps. Sometimes with uncommon conditions, multiple Dr visits and tests/imaging are needed to determine the cause.

Cold: Use cold compresses immediately after the extraction to reduce the swelling and pain.  You can use warm compresses from the next day on.

1) infection
2) cyst
3) cancer
4) muscle spasm.
Bottom line is to have your surgeon evaluate this for you.

You need a dentist!: And your question(s) is ?   See a dentist to evaluate your symptoms, diagnose the problem(s) and recommend treatment.  Swelling usually indicates an infection which if left untreated can lead to serious complications.  Therefore, the sooner you see a dentist for treatment, the sooner you will feel better and be out of danger.
