Bruise: What you are describing sounds like a typical bruise to me however if the pain continues, it is a good idea to see a doctor and get an X Ray done to rule out an underlying bony injury.

i have a bruise beside my shin. shin is swollen and a little beside the other part of shin is swollen. how long should it take the swelling to go down?

Blood resorbs slowly: A bruise is actually a collection of blood from local trauma. That being said, bruises that involve a large volume of local blood may take several weeks to resolve. Resolution occurs when the blood resorbs back  into the surrounding tissue and biologically begins to breakdown. The bruise will go through some color changes from the standard darker acute colors to the later lighter mixed shades.

hit shin on gymnastic beam small dent medial to/in tibia, swollen/painful to touch/ weight bear pain free. lost sensation to portion of bruise. advice?

You can try: Icing the area to improve the swelling, taking an over the counter anti inflammatory  such as Ibuprofen will also help. Should be better in a few days. Good luck!

Lymph flow blocked: There is fluid in your body called lymph fluid that is constantly moving from one place to another. If something upstream is blocked, it can no longer flow adequately and the body tissue upstream accumulates and that part of your body swells. So if the calf/shin is swollen, everything past that part of the leg will accumulate fluid. Elevate leg will help some, as will gentle massage of foot/leg.

Time4ConcreteThinkin: In general, if it's difficult to bear weight then there may be more injury to the bone than a simple bruise and it would be best to have it examined and possibly x-rayed. If the x-ray is negative and you still cannot bear weight, they might decide to do another form of x-ray or put you on crutches, wait 7-10 days and then see you again and decide. Either way, probably best to see a doc for this.

Shin spints: The anterior portion of your legs consists of the tibial bone that starts from below the knee to the beginning of the foot. The anterior surface can be painful from overuse, stress fractures, cysts, tumors, vascular compromise including clots. The shin area is susceptible to shin splints due to muscular overuse and inadequate blood supply.You should be examined by a sports podiatrist or orthopod.

Not much we can do: About that online. It's certainly not a typical sounding injury, but I don't know how long ago this happened and what other things might be contributing. Sounds like the leg needs to be looked at. Urgent care is your best bet since they have x-rays on site. Good luck and feel better!

See a orthopedic Dr.: Swelling that lasts two years is cause for concern. You need to see an orthopedic dr. That specializes in knee pathology. It may be fluid retention that needs to be drained but i would think that an MRI of that area is indicated at this time as well.

Shin bump: This has to be evaluated by a doctor. You might need an x-ray also.

got hit on front/partial side of my shin by a softball going roughly 56 mph a month ago. major swelling, dark bruising, extremely painful for the following 2 weeks. still has a dark bruise ring, hard, swollen, hurts to touch. should i be concerned?

: You need to have your leg examined to see what the problem is. A month is quite a while to still have swelling and pain so you need to have it evaluated. There is no other way to have it diagnosed but to see a doctor. This is likely a hematoma but this can also get infected and require antibiotics. Treatment can be rendered once a diagnosis is made.
