regular every day gastric tube has to be there all the time and if you swim you are taking chanced of water going to your stomach or gastric juices coming out

my 5yr old is prone to ear infections. could swimming increase his chances of gettin them? at his age would tubes still be a possibility, consult ent?

Different issues: The middle ear otitis that benefits from tubes is different from the canal infections that come with swimming. Middle ear infections are head size related and fade as the kids eustachian tubes enlarge with age. Swimmer's ear is related to time in the pool and retention of water after swimming. Remove the water and end the problem.Tubes would have no benefit.

GI tube hole: NO this is a concern.  You should go to the Emergency Department now and be seen and evaluated.
There are so many possible problems that could be going on.

Ask your surgeon: Although if your wound is healed and your vaginal bleeding has stopped, it is probably fine to go swimming.  The question is whether your cervix is closed sufficient to keep the pool water out of your uterus.  Most will say to wait for your 6 weeks post partum check before you go swimming.

Postural Orthostatic: Tachycardia Syndrome in teens  is an ^ in heart rate of 40 or &gt; beats/min.  within 10 min.  of assuming an upright position with no drop in blood pressure. Pediatric specialists in cardiology, endocrinology, neurology &amp; genetics often evaluate for underlying causes; child &amp; adolescent psychologists provide therapy. Pediatric GI doctors look for related physical or functional GI disorders.

i have severe gastroparesis and am fed via j-tube. despite getting enough calories according to gi, i am still slowly losing weight.  what do i do?

Increase calories: J tube feeds require elemental feedings,  which have been pre digested. You either are not absorbing your nutrients, or not getting enough of them. Speak with your GI doc to discuss your concerns and get proper feedings.

my 25lb 2 year old swallowed 1/4 tube of .25% fluoride toothpaste. other than giving milk and watching for gi symptoms, is there anything i should do?

Fluoride: Because Fluoride ingestion may lead to serious gastric upset as well as a host of effects like low calcium, high potassium, nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, seizures (due to low calcium &/or magnesium) and worse (with severe poisoning), it's best to have the child seen in an er where vital signs & electrolytes can be monitored & treatment instituted.

No: Your GI tube should not cause you to throw up.  If you are getting chemo, that might be the cause.  If you are taking pain medicine, it could slow your stomach emptying.Then any tube feeds you are using can accumulate in your stomach and cause you to throw up in the morning.  Some medication might help, or changing your tube feed schedule.  But you sure don't need to suffer from daily vomiting!

daughter lost ability to swallow 9 days ago. gi docs can't find cause & says she's in starvation ketosis but won't give her feed tube, only glucose iv. is that safe? atl area docs you can recommend?

Correct approach...: Starvation ketosis is a derangement of the blood chemistry making it too acidic.  If the patient receives intravenous or gastric tube feedings before these imbalances are corrected, they could experience re-feeding syndrome which can cause life threatening electrolyte imbalances, especially hypophosphatemia.  Any patient who has not eaten in greater than five days is at risk.
