Yes: You will have a swollen knee after surgery.  The knee may even swell up more after physical therapy sessions.  But for the most part your swelling should go away over the first 1-2 months after your surgery.

Acl: Check with your doctor. May have to have the knee drained. May be blood, inflammation, or infection.

See details: Then see an orthopedist and have the knee reevaluated. There are several possible causes for knee swelling and the swelling may not be related to the prior surgery.

ACL/MCL: Yes, early fatigue is normal because of lack of strength. It takes time for you to re-build stamina. It is always good to check in with your surgeon as well.

ACL surgery: Following ACL surgery and bone patellar tendon bone (BPTB) autograft it is not unusual to have post operative swelling from the graft site. I am concerned that you have a 30 degree extension lag and I would consult with your surgeon to ensure that there has been no injury to the patella, patella tendon and that your brace (if you are using one) is not locked in a flexion setting.

Some is expected...: How long has it been since your procedure? Pain and stiffness are expected to a certain degree in the recovery phases of acl reconstruction. If you had recent surgery i would suggest you continue rice, post-op exercises, and pt as directed. However, if this pain seems to be indicative of infection or DVT (due to time frame of surgery or any other symptoms) then contact your surgeon asap.

Depends: Your Surgeon is in best position to tell you. Sometimes full range of motion is never achieved after surgery even with PT

Varies with surgery: Most of my arthroscopic surgery patients
for menisectomy have most of their swelling
gone within a few days and are walking
normally within a week.
For the acl patients, the time frame would
probably be more like 4-6 weeks.
