Head swelling: The only things i can think of would be trauma and infection.  Any history of insect bites?  I would apply ice, but if that doesn't help, see a doctor.

These are created from broken veins that bridge the scalp through the skull. Sometimes the pool will form a bony calcium deposit that can last months. Eventually it will fade as the kid grows. You never try to drain it or it can become infected. Your doc should confirm it
