No no no: Unless you are trying to make a salad in your ear keep oil out of your ear. Speaking of salads in your ear there is a role for white vinegar at times. In the case of chronic bacterial or fungal ear canal infections the vinegar can acidify the ear canal. Bacteria and fungus do not do well in the presence of acid like vinegar. As a general rule leave your ear alone. If your ear bothers you see ent.

No: Ear infections need to be diagnosed by a doctor and based on whether they are external or middle ear infections, need to be treated by an appropriate antibiotic.

Yes you can: But the question is why? Best to use saline nasal irrigation with a Neti-pot and possibly a decongestant.

It depends: There are times when it could be dangerous, like a perforated ear drum for instance.  But for a suspected middle ear infection, this form of treatment has been practiced for centuries and provides relief while the body's mechanisms for dealing with the infection take over.  After years of prescribing antibiotics for these, we now know that the majority will heal on their own without drug risks.

No: These have no therapeutic benefit other than giving you something to do. Some of these are viral &amp; self heal in a few days.If it is bacterial it may self heal in 2-3 months or rupture and become chronically infected. Standard treatment of bacterial otitis involves antibiotics.

my granddaughter is on amoxicillin for an ear infection is it ok to rub tree tea oil on the back of her ear? mixed with warm water?

Topical remedy: Tea tree oil should have no effect on the amoxicillin.   Watch for any signs of skin irritation, e.g. contact dermatitis.

Ear infection: Please avoid using olive oil for this. Get the child evaluated to confirm diagnosis. Take care.

What kind?: Ear oil is unlikely to prevent otitis media (middle ear infections) since the ear canal doesn't  communicate with the middle ear. But, it may help with pain from a middle ear infection. For otitis externa (swimmers ear), there is no evidence to support using wally ear oil as prevention but i can't think of a reason why a drop in each ear once a week during swimming season would be harmful.

Have him seen: If you suspect an ear infection he will need to have it evaluated to confirm/exclude the diagnosis &amp; define proper treatment.

I : I hope you are better by now. For anyone reading this post or for your future reference, you can always call the doctor that is treating you. He/she will tell you if they think you should come back into the office, go to the er, or they may just want to change your medication. 
In your case the antibiotics were not adequate or they may not have been necessary since many ear infections are viral and tend to clear on their own over time.
If for some reason you are still in pain and have not seen your doctor do so immediately.
