Sore throat: It sounds like a routine sore throat, which is usually viral, but it could be bacterial.  Allergic reactions can cause swelling of the uvula, but it wouldnt typically hurt.  If it gets worse, see your doctor as you might need an antibiotic.  Feel better.

See doctor: It appears that you may have some inflammation going on and need to have a doctor check the area to figure out what may be causing the inflammation.  People with long uvula tends to snore loudly as well and in some instances, the uvula can be shortened with surgery.

Swallowing vulva: Axel, the most successful treatment for your problem will probably be by using hypnosis. I suggest that you find a licensed clinician who has been trained in hypnotic methods.  Treatment should be quick and effective.

Sore throat: Sounds like pharyngitis or tonsilitis. You should see a board certified otolaryngologist. Sounds like a possible "strep throat". You need to be evaluated for antibiotics. Also may require a steroid injection depending on the amount of swelling. Hope this helps.

why is my uvula darkred at the bottom and painful when i swallow?

It may be enlarged.: Uvulas come in all sizes. If the uvula becomes inflammed from excess exposure or pressure it could enlarge and turn red and painful. If you have nasal congestion you may be mouth breathing which can inflame the oral pharyngeal tissues. If you have a large tongue and small airway this may increase the problem. Usually this is a temporary condition. If it persists, consult a throat specialist.

Tylenol/Sleep study: Temporary improvement in symptoms can be achieved with over the counter meds like tylenol (acetaminophen) and motrin. But in a bigger picture you probably have issues with sleep called "obstructive sleep apnea" and you need a sleep study to see if you need a cpap. A device which will help you breathe better and sleep better. See your dr. To  avoid other several major complications.

If : If your wife had surgery with general anaesthesia, and the findings you describe were noted after the surgery, most likely there was some minor trauma incurred during the intubation while placing the breathing tube. This usually is self-limited, and requires only symptomatic comfort measures. Any persistent problems should be evaluated by an ENT specialist. Understand that I am speculating without the benefit of examination.

Rhinitis: You may have some mild chronic rhinitis or allergic rhinitis.  Try some saline nasal spray; if that doesn't help, try an antihistamine.  That will help in differentiating between the two, but ultimately i would consult with an ENT or an allergist to definitively help you.

i felt some discomfort when i tried to swallow 3 days ago. (i had just gotten off of a plane) there is now a tiny bump hanging off my uvula.viral inf?

Virus: Probably viral which means it will go away. Second possibility is an enlarged minor salivary gland which means you need to drink more water. have it checked out with an ENT
