Why is my uvula darkred at the bottom and painful when i swallow?

It may be enlarged.: Uvulas come in all sizes. If the uvula becomes inflammed from excess exposure or pressure it could enlarge and turn red and painful. If you have nasal congestion you may be mouth breathing which can inflame the oral pharyngeal tissues. If you have a large tongue and small airway this may increase the problem. Usually this is a temporary condition. If it persists, consult a throat specialist.
