Ask cardiologist: Generally speaking....A vaginal delivery is easier on the heart than a c-section.  If your SVT is worsened by exertion and exercise than you may do better with a c-section.  If your SVT is controllable with medications than you may be able to have a vaginal delivery.

No : It can be dealt with using medications before or during delivery as needed. Btw, the act of childbirth with "pushing" is very effective therapy for terminating an svt spell.

Probably: Cardiac issues are challenging during pregnancy. It really takes a team, including OB, anesthesia. cardiology and often a maternal-fetal-medicine physician. Fortunately, SVT is a relatively minor issue and can be treated effectively, quickly, if it occurs. You may want to have a discussion with your OB and cardiologist about what to expect. After delivery, consider ablation if it is offered.

Rarely: SVT can occur anytime during the pregnancy but especially in the last trimester.  Fortunately, even for those with prior history of SVT, the incidence is low and the treatment is safe and effective.  Sometimes episodes terminate on their own.  SVT may happen during C-section but again this is uncommon and usually managed easily with no harm to mother or child.

Possible: From a cardiac standpoint, svt ablation is not a contraindications for pregnancy. Should discuss it with your ob/gyn.

SVT: Supraventricular tachycardia (svt) is the same in pregnant women as it is in any adult. The difference is not only does the woman have symptoms, the fetus may suffer as well. It is an abnormal fast heart beat, generally over 180, up to as high as 220-240. Preventive and therapeutic treatment is available for use during pregnancy.

can i take lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) during pregnancy to control my svt?

Please check with OB: Pregnancy and svt should be closely monitored by your obstetrician!  Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) would not be my drug of choice with your pregnancy in mind; would rather have prescribed an alpha-blocker...And any medication must be category b.  Please check with your o.B.!

30 year old pregnant female  with svt on 40 mg of sotalol/day. also have a reversed cervical curve. having pain where cartoid arteries are?

Probably ok: Carotodynia is an old fashioned term used to describe nonspecific aching in the carotid bulb region. Other than feeling uncomfortable there is probably no serious repercussions. If visual changes, speech changes, or motor deficits are occurring then the discomfort needs to be checked out immediately by a local physician. Otherwise i would observe and not treat. Good luck with your pregnancy!

i have a leaky heart valve and now found out i am pregnant. will one most likely effect the other? i have svt and a leaky heart valve. i just found out i'm pregnant and want to know if i should be concerned and what danger signs to be aware of if any.

That : That is a very good question and it is good that you are thinking ahead.  To be safe, you should be evaluated by a cardiologist and by a high-risk perinatologist.  Keep a close eye on any symptoms you have, and notify a physician immediately if you have a concern.  Particularly, if you develop any palpitations, light-headedness, fainting, or chest discomfort you must be seen immediately.

i have svt, i usually get episodes once a month (fast heart rate)but everytime im pregnant, nothing happens, then after birth it come back again. why?

SVT: Pregnancy changes your hormonal state and other hemodynamic related parts of your physiology. There are multiple possible reasons for the improvement with pregnancy. We generally don't recommend staying pregnant however as a treatment for svt.
