during a recent mra, it showed a cam impingement, labral tears and gluteus maximus  strain, surgery was  recom'd; what can i do for the strain?

Accepted Answer

Strain will heal: Glute strain will heal on it's own.  You can improve timing and how you feel with mobilization exercises, rolling, and physical therapy.  Labral tear can be treated with and without surgery.  Find an experienced orthopaedic surgeon who does a large number of hip scope cases a year.  Scoping a hip is not the same as a knee or shoulder.

it's now three weeks i've done my umbilical hernia surgery can coughing or straining to move your bowel affect the wound?

Doubtful: I would think that normal straining at this point will not have a deleterious effect on the integrity of the wound.  I would not resume more strenuous activity until directed by your surgeon.

9wk baby has an umbilical hernia thats growing, its around 2cm in diameter when he isnt straining and turns blue when he cries. will he need surgery?

Possibly: Umbilical hernias in children do have the potential to resolve as the child grows.  Usually this doesn't happen until age 4 or 5.  They are only repaired if they become symptomatic (painful) or if they are increasing in size.  This hernia needs close observation by your pediatrician.  He will be able to refer you to a surgeon for repair when it is necessary.

No: This is not usually operated. Get a second opinion locally, or even go up to the mayo clinic.

Conservative Therapy: Conservative therapy should be attempted first.  Splints, anti inflammatories, and activity modification can help.  If you do not improve then surgery may be necessary to prevent long term nerve damage.

my 6 week old has an umbilical hernia that gets bigger than his fist when he cries & strains. his dr says its ok. how do i know if surgery is needed?

Usually not needed: Umbilical hernias usually do not require surgery - is correct. We usually wait till about 2 years of age &amp; if not going away by then we do consider it mainly for cosmetic reasons and esp if large. If the hernia cannot be put back in ( reduced) or if baby cries incessantly and cries more if hernia is touched, or the skin over it becomes read and swollen - even turns colors , visit ER.

4 days back i had my lasic surgery. i want to know for how many days i should keep complete rest and not strain my eyes like reading, etc?

Lasik surgery: Usually wait 7-10 days. However, use artificial tears 4-6x per day. And by all means do not rub your eyes!

is it possible to getrectocele after straining one time due to constipation from post surgery pain meds? i can feel the bulge in vaginal area.

Accepted Answer

No: Straining won't cause a rectocele. Rectoceles occur as a result of previous childbirth. Straining will make them more symptomatic.

will you need surgery again (cone removed from cervix) after having sex w/ the same partner who gave you the low-grade hpv strain?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Reinfection with the same strain is not even your biggest concern.  Getting a DIFFERENT strain from the one you had before is more of a problem!  There are many different strains, and some cause more dysplasia than others. Use protection!
