Yes: A supracondylar fracture is a pretty significant and debilitating fracture if not treated.  Particularly if it is displaced or involves the joint.   While there are complications as with any surgery, if you are healthy, surgery is better than the alternative of a nonfunctioning elbow.

Radial Nerve: The presence of a wrist drop with a humeral fracture is most often due to a stretch injury or contusion of the nerve as it travels down the arm in the spiral groove.  An extension wrist splint may be helpful to prevent a flexion contracture from the associated wrist drop.  If there is an absence of improvement on exam and serial EMG testing, surgical exploration may need to be considered.

To be certain, x-ray: Pain, swelling, lack of motion, and/ or tenderness to touch following an injury could indicate fracture, but deformity is a sure sign if the area is away from a joint. If near a joint deformity could mean fracture or dislocaiton. 

The best way to know for sure is to have an x-ray.
