There : There is an easy, and encouraging explanation for this. Muscle is denser than fat (an equivalent volume of muscle weighs more than fat). As you improve your diet and increase your exercise your body becomes leaner and healthier. And even though you feel better, and look fitter when you look in the mirror, you may not weigh any less initially. But, as you continue to get more fit and lean you will eventually lose weight. Remember, weight is only one factor in body health. Waist circumference is also tremendously important, because it is very bad for your heart and liver to carry extra fat around your gut (a "spare tire"). Don't be discouraged by the initial lack of weight loss. If you keep up your treadmill routine and eat healthy foods you will start to lose weight. Lastly, healthy weight loss is a slow and steady process. You shouldn't lose more than 1-2 pounds per week.

Depends: Your rate of weight loss depends on many factors. If its just calories in versus calories out, then you would lose weight fairly rapidly with this program. But you are eating too little. You should try for 2 pounds per week of steady gentle weight loss and not damage your health. I would think you need a diet of at least 1500 calories per day.

1 lb = 3500 calories: Given above formula, figure your expending 500 calories a day and your body expends about 1800 calories baseline, so, at 2300 calories intake your weight will stay the same. If your taking only 1000 calories in daily, then your net loss is 1300 calories and round it off to 1000 calories. You should end up losing about 2 lbs per week on average.
