Probably: If temporary and does not recur, double vision in one eye is usually due to a tear film issue that is corrected with blinking or artificial tears.  If only one eye but more constant, then could be astigmatism, cataract, epiretinal membrane, or some other monocular cause.

Tell your doctor: Transitory raised intracranial pressure can cause diplopia and visual loss. Coughing raises your ICP. Need to check for cerebral masses and aneurysm or idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Its important to have your head scanned before a lumbar puncture to check baseline spinal fluid pressure is attempted to exclude a mass. A good neuro exam, eye exam and BP assessment should be done first.

i had successful strabismus surgery to correct my double vision on february 3rd 2023. im wondering if smoking cannabis, drinking alcohol or using any other types of muscle relaxants will bring back my double vision either temporarily or permanently?

Muscle imbalance: The most common cause is muscle imbalance between the eyes. If this is the cause then covering each eye will eliminate the double vision. If you cover each eye and it is still blurry, you most likely need glasses. An eye care professional can correct these problems.

Diplopia: Doubling of vision can occur for many reasons.  The most common is misalignment of the eyes which can be from trauma or damage to nerves leading to the eye muscles.  Have you had an event from which one might predict you would get doubling of vision?   You could ask about that in another question.

Many reasons: Double vision is due to lack of coherence of eye muscles, and can be due to problems with nerve locally, eye muscle weakness or fatigue (myasthenia gravis), problems at base of brain (multiple sclerosis), some medications (usually rare), infections (nasopharyngeal), problems in cavernous sinus, orbital areas, retrobulbar sites.  See an ophthalmologist and get an answer.

Needs evaluation: If you have the onset of doubling recently it can be a symptoms of tumor, aneurysm, trauma or a stroke.  Double vision is uncomfortable, usually intolerable as the images both are legitimate and your brain cannot choose between them.  You should be seen by a neuro-ophthalmologist who can diagnose the cause.

In most cases,: Yes.  But more importantly, has the cause be determined.  Double vision can be sign of significant, even lethal, disease.  See a physician if this a new problem.
