Could be: You can get arthritis in your hand and this can cause sudden worsening pain with some activities.  Other causes could be trigger finger or snapping tendon.  Splinting or buddy taping to adjacent finger is ok for a while, but can cause stiffness if splinted too long.

i have sudden weakness and pain in my left hand. my right is fine, but grasping with left is weak and a bit painfull why is this?

See your MD: There could be some nerve compression or compression of the spinal cord creating your weakness.  Anytime a patient experiences weakness, they need further evaluation right away.
Call your family md, let him evaluate you and order the proper tests.  He will refer you to a specialist if necessary.

need to check: As  all heart  attacks may not present as typical ' severe left chest pain , radiating to arm.'  your dad may be have a atypical presentation as you described  , only way to know what causing his pain is to go to  his doctor , age 50 is a critical age. Take him to the doctor soon.

Pain hand: Acute pain, yes there can be an infection or another issue, call your doctor. Other things such as arthritis at th base of the thumb, or irritation from prolonged dependency on splints may be suspect as well. By speaking to your surgeon directly they can determine if anything else needs to be done. Often this can simply be a phone call but you must call to start the evaluation process

Please clarify/check: This could be heart disease, but it could be from stress also.  You might have a pneumothorax as you are young, but this usually occurs in thin individuals.  Your weight puts you at increased risk for heart disease, but you are young and your tests were negative.  So it would be wise to see your doctor for a full work-up including what situations this occurs in and if you're under stress.

LUQ anatomy: Anatomically, the left upper quadrant (luq) of abdomen includes: spleen, pancreatic tail, stomach, descending duodenum, splenic flexure of the colon, associated vessels. Don't forget the diaphragm, heart, and lower chest are pretty close by. The abdominal musculature, ribs, and skin can all contribute as well to localizing luq pain. Cause of pain determines treatment.

Need more info: Dear XKane,  I would need to know for how long you have been experiencing this sensation. Is it after you do a specific activity? do you see any change in the color of the hand?  Is it accompanied by tingling or numbness?  This symptom makes me think about carpal tunnel but there are many other possibilities.  I am sorry I cannot be of more help, Dr. C

Not to worry: It is very common to experience those sensations in recurrent or paroxysmal pattern...  The intensity and duration of the electric shock is proportionally direct to the time of complete recover..
