Uc is the result of an abnormal response by your body's immune system by sending white blood cells into the lining of the intestines, where they produce chronic inflammation and ulcerations.  Uc can cause abdominal discomfort and frequent bowel movements and occasionally bleeding.

An exam by a primary care doctor can help figure things out. Pain in the right upper abdomen, especially with symptoms that occur after eating, can be due to gallstones or other gall bladder disease. A doctor can evaluate for gall bladder or other problems.

Needs Further w/u: Multiple symptoms involving entire abdomen, leading to multiple  D/D. It appears that  patient has Ac. GBD, other non specific symptoms may be part of AC GBD, with possible associated  Hx of IBS,  Dx of Ac. appendiciis has to be r/o .
Needless to say there is a urgency for him to be evaluated by GI or Surgeon , for correct dx, after a dedicted w/u

Diverticulitis: Many diseases can cause these symptoms: diverticulitis, abscess and tumors (particularly colon cancer) being the most important. I think you should see a surgeon and be examined and most likely you will need a CT-scan and a colonoscopy. CT-scan will show many other possible causes of this pain.  
In women, diseases of the ovary (eg abscess, tumor etc) can cause this type of pain.
