May have hyperacusis: There is a condition called hyperacusis in which certain sounds can be painful. Sometimes it can occur in patients with underlying hearing loss. I recommend you see an ENT doctor to have a hearing test and an ear exam.

You are describing: the response of the ear to a noxious injury LOUD SOUNDS are the most common (eg a gunshot etc) I suppose intense cold could damage as well but you have to check this with
an Audiologist!!  Ask your Primary Care Provider for a referral!

are higher frequency noises or lower frequency noises more harmful to your ears? my ears have become sensitive and loud high pitched sounds makes me feel nauseous and like jumping out of my body. will this get better and what noises should i avoid?

Both: Both high and low frequency noises can be damaging to one's hearing if loud enough, or if exposed to long enough. Haven't seen any research studies comparing each to determine which is more damaging. It's sort of like comparing lemons to limes... hard to find a difference. Anyway, one should wear good hearing protection  if exposed to loud noises. For comfort, avoid sounds that sound irritating.

Unusual descript.: A sound "in your brain" can only be one of three things:  1) a true external sound with acoustic interference 2) a miscue of the auditory center within the brain responsible for localization of sound or 3) misplacement of inner narrative (as occurs with schizophrenia).  You are likely suffering from #2.  Certain meds are known to cause tinnitus or "ringing."  please discuss with your doctors.

May be other entity: There are other "things" that can cause one to hear swishing sounds in the ear so if your doctor has only sent you for audiometry testing you could inquire as to their opinion in performing some other tests to rule out something abnormal within the inner ear or even the neck itself. It is slightly odd that only high pitched sounds seem to trigger the noise though. I'm not sure what that indicates.

had a large pop and then really high pitched whining in ear that woke me up last night. currently dizzy, echo in ears, 96.3 temp, sounds intensified.

Get checked: This could represent a spontaneous (versus traumatic) rupture of your eardrum. Please go get this checked by your doc tomorrow or very soon.  Be well!
