Tolerable?: If it's not working and it's getting worse then it's time to switch. If you can control the variables which cause this then it's better to avoid taking more meds.

Stress Blotches: Stress urticaria cause blotches with bumps that look like mosquito bites.  Others have  increased blood vessel activity, and blotches on the face or neck, caused by stress hormones.  Histamine release is the likely source for urticaria, which often causes itching.  Reducing stress, how you react to stress, will make a difference.

Blochy skin: It is very common for blotchy skin to come on in high stress or nervous situations. If they are not red, raised and intensely itchy then it is not hives or urticaria.

Urticaria: Loratadine can work for some people.  Also i find that some patients respond well to zyrtec (cetirizine) (ceterizine) daily.  Both are available over the counter.

Antihistamines: Cholinergic urticaria (hives) is caused by increase in core body temperature with triggers like exercise with sweating, strong emotions, and bathing in hot water. Identify and avoid known triggers, avoid bathing in hot water and performing strenuous exercise during hot weather. Can take non-sedating antihistamines 1-2 times daily. Allergist can perform methacholine challenge in office to confirm.

Vasoactive Amines: Your body is more reactive to the heat and releases chemicals that cause urticaria. This answer in part depends on the rest of your health. Your body releases these chemicals known as vasoactive amines that cause the swelling and itching that you see with your urticaria

Urticaria: It's difficult to tell if you truly have cholinergic urticaria from your description. Usually urticaria is raised. But some people have what is called dermatographia which causes flat red hot skin especially when stressed, touched or hot. In either condition Zyrtec (cetirizine) should help

can i apply aqueous calamine on my 1 year old baby when he gets urticaria or when he gets heat rash? need him to  stop scratching.

Not recommended: For itching from heat rash, the best thing to do is prevent it by keeping him cool and dry. Put him in light clothing and avoid overheating when possible (avoid car rides in the heat of the day ). For the urticaria, your doctor may be able to help figure out what is causing the hives. Calamine is not very helpful. For itching due to insect bites, i like caladryl clear best.

Histamine!: Mast cells contain histamine the chemical start in "immunology" parlance causes itching, leagage of fluid from blood vessels, even burning.  This typical in an urticarial bx!

Cholinergic: urticaria, or other form of urticaria, better be sorted out by your doctor who might refer you, meanwhile you need to take antihistamines on regular basis whether you have symptoms or not, caution not to drive if you get sedated, your doctor might start you on cyproheptadine, an antihistaminic used to treat cholinergic urticaria, if you truly have it, take care
