Most are viruses: Toddlers are constantly chewing/sucking their fingers or touching the world around them.That gives them ample opportunity to sample every virus or bacteria  that exists in their environment. Their mouth/throat is the entrance to their immune system and tonsils that react when stimulated. Strep is sensitive to antibiotics but the viruses must run their course.

Pharyngitis. : Pharyngitis.  This can be due to a virus, streptococcus bacteria (strep throat), reflux disease or allergies. The best way to tell if it is probably strep is if you have a fever and no runny nose or cough, then it is likely strep throat if you have a family member diagnosed with the same.   If you have a cough, runny nose, or itchy eyes then most likely it is allergies.  If you find that you cough when laying down and have heartburn then it is likely due to reflux.  If your symptoms last longer than 7-10 then you should see your physician to help sort out your symptoms.

It&#x27;s Possible: While it&#x27;s possible to have hand-foot-and-mouth syndrome along with strep throat, hand-foot-and-mouth also causes sores in the mouth, and if you are a carrier for group a strep, a strep test could come back positive despite this not being the pathogen (cause).  Fluids, rest, Ibuprofen are very beneficial.  See her doctor in 5-7 days if not significantly improving.

No tobacco/alcohol: It is unlikely that you have cancer, however, it would be good to abstain from using tobacco in any form.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Likely not HIV: The most likely causes of a sore throat include a viral upper respiratory infection or allergies. Strep throat is also a potential cause, and that's likely why you were prescribed zithromax. Hiv would be way down on the list of possible causes, especially as a presenting symptom. If you are concerned that you are at risk for hiv, share that with your physician and see if you should be tested.

Rapid strep test : As i mentioned, we can use http://www.Mdcalc.Com/modified-centor-score-for-strep-pharyngitis/ to determine whether to run rapid strep test or even traditional throat culture in order to prove you have (he has) "strep". Both tests are performed via swabbing back of throat. Depending upon score, we might just look & make diagnosis but more often, we need testing to prove one way or another.

Yes: Strep is a bacterial infection of your throat and it is in direct communication with your oral cavity.  Gargle and rinse with salt water and make sure to brush your teeth, gums, tongue and mouth several time a day.  It will help with the bad taste.  Do not cover it with mints or mouthwashes that could make things worst.

NO: Strep. Throat usually starts with a sore throat and headache.  This is followed by fever, pus on the throat or tonsils and enlarged lymph nodes at the angles of the jaws.  A bad taste in the mouth can be caused by many things but not typically a strep. Throat.
