When the muscles that lie along the sides of the spine become tense with spasm, they pull the spine straighter than usual.  This results in discomfort.

: Following injury, rehabilitation includes stretching and gradual resistance exercises.  If chronic neck pain and stiffness, have a physical therapist design a gradually progressive program to avoid re-injury.  A certified exercise physiologist could also be used, but avoid those who claim to be "personal trainers".

: If the "spasm" is the sole abnormal finding, this indicates a muscular strain/ sprain, and likely you would benefit from physical therapy and exercise.  Since you indicate chronicity, perhaps a physiatrist could get involved to orchestrate a rehab program.

: ALS needs a good clinical as well as lab work in addition NRI.  It could be something else too. Pl see a good neurologist. Wish you well

Not much: Common benign non specific finding if that is all they had to say about your xray no bony abnormalities, be reassured not anxious, no arthritis no fractures no scoliosis

No: There are multiple medications we use for muscle spasticity to varying degrees of help including flexeril, zanaflex, soma, baclofen, Valium, and skelaxin (metaxalone) just to name a few.  Discuss directly with your doctor what would be best for you.

i'm 17 months post op two level lumbar fusion surgery and still having muscle tightening, muscle fatigue, and muscle spasms...is this common?

It can be: If you had a posterior approach for your surgery, the muscles can be damaged from the exposure and can result in chronic deconditioning and muscular pain.  You may benefit from a walking program and physical therapy to strengthen your core and  lumbar muscles.  Finally, it is important to confirm that you are indeed fused.

ToBeInterpretedByMD: There is something wrong with the results as described by you.There are only 11 WBCs and lymphocytes and mononuclear cells are also WBCs.LP results are always interpreted by the doctor who did the test.Normally there should not be more than 5 WBCs in the spinal fluid.High WBCs&amp;that too only lymphocytes suggest a viral infection.But the results can only be interpreted by the treating doctor/neurolo
