Ablation : Your doctor probably asked you to to that to make it more likely for him/her to induce your arrhythmia. While is infrequent done might experience a symptomatic increase in pulse. Talk  to the doctor performing the ablstiob.

Lipitor/Toprol XL: There are so many side effects of these medication that we can't enumerate here. Most common are:
 lipitor: muscle aches, fatigue, liver problems
toprol: wekness, slow heart beat, sleep problems, sexual dysfunction, depression etc.
Consult your physician about stopping medications. Without that, don't stop your medications.

i have very short runs of svt. cardiology says i can stop beta blocker due to side effects. but when i went from 25 to 12.5mg of metoprolol i had more frequent episodes. doing better after 3 weeks. are the more frequent episodes from withdrawal?

: This should be discussed with your Cardiologist who knows the source of your problem and other meds your are taking.  Everyone is their own experiment when it comes to medications and the Dr who knows you can give you the best advice. My hunch would be Yes the increase in freq may be related to stepping down the BB.

i've been on metoprolol for 4 weeks and olmesartan for 2--both for high bp. i hated the side effects .pa's putting me on new rx. pa said stop everything & take olmesartan with diuretic. thought i shouldn't abruptly stop beta blcker. i'm worried?

: Rebound effect may happen with stopping metoprolol if you are taking high dose. You can cut down the dose in half daily and then 25 mg every other day then stop. Because blood pressure is under control with Olmesartan Hctz so you only watch for rebound tachycardia (high heart rate). If blood pressure is too low with tapered metoprolol dose but heart rate is not high, you can stop metoprolol.

Possible side effect: Possible side effects of beta-blockers include: sexual dysfunction in males, HDL reduction, increased triglycerides, bronchoconstriction if non-selective beta-blocker leading to shortness of breath, bradycardia, hypotension, heart block, fatigue, and dizziness.  However, don't forget that most people do fine, or have a brief adjustment period then are fine. Talk w/ ur doc to see if benefits>risks.

Minimum: The biggest consequence is the need to stop it slowly. As a beta blocker it slows your heart rate. If you stop it cold turkey it can cause rapid heart rate and anxiety.
