Racing thoughts can be overwhelming, affect clarity of mind, affect concentration on specific tasks and affect functioning.
They can be symptom of Anxiety.
Hydroxyzine reduces activity in the central nervous system.  It can decrease racing thoughts, not stop racing thoughts.

Vistaril (hydroxyzine): Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is a anti-histamine - so no it does not stop pain. It does cause drowsiness - and if you really get drowsy you may not feel that the pain is bad. Not a good idea to use vistaril (hydroxyzine) for pain.

Atarax (hydroxyzine): Is antihistamine used for anxiety and sometimes to calm irritable bowels. When stop regular use, stomach can be more active and nausea results.

It can, but...: Medicines like Hydroxyzine and Diphenhydramine (benadryl) can help with itching associated with eczema. However, the best way to get relief is to treat the eczema itself using topical medicines, ranging from over the counter euceryn to prescription drugs. Hopefully your doc can help, and they aren't, see a dermatologist if you can.

Per my reference: Vistaril (hydroxyzine) should not cause weight gain, however, anything is possible. Try to stop using is and begin exercise and dieting. Best of luck!

Depends: Once your appetite returns to normal, you will have to eat less (particularly carbs) and exercise more to lose the weight which was gained.  The speed of loss depends on how much less you eat and how much more you exercise.
