Atarax (hydroxyzine): Atarax (hydroxyzine) does not cause itching rather, stopping the drug causes the suppressed itch to come out once again.

Atarax (hydroxyzine) lessens itch: More likely the itching was there while taking the atarax, (hydroxyzine) but as an antihistamine it was covering up the itch. When it was stopped the itching became evident.
