i have rectal bleeding from radiation proctitis. colonoscopy scheduled in january. should i stop taking daily baby aspirin? prostate cancer radiation ended in march. stent placed in 99% blocked lad in 2017. taking hydrocortisone suppositories. i'm 71?

: Since you have a stent in a coronary artery,it's important to take low dose aspirin indefinitely. If you're only experiencing trace amounts of bright red blood on the paper, I'm sure your cardiologist would want you to continue aspirin. However with substantial rectal bleeding &amp; chronic anemia, this would have to be a collaborative decision between your cardiologist and the gastroenterologist.

Tell the GI doctor: You should tell the doctor who will be performing colonoscopy and s/he should make adjustments to ensure a safe procedure.

i had colon polyps removed thursday after a colonoscopy.  the papers said not to take aspirin, can i take ibuprofen for a headache?

Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) would be safer. Do not drink alcohol.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

having colonoscopy next week. is it critical that low dose aspirin, fish oil, multivitamin, and vitamin c be discontinued 7 days in advance?

Yes If Told Not: The Aspirin and fish oil both can thin your blood and cause bleeding issues during the procedures. Vitamins often have dyes in them that can discolor the tissues and make it difficult to accurately assess any conditions that might be present. Do you really want to go through the prep for the test to get false or inaccurate results? Follow the doctor's orders!

: NSAIDs, especially aspirin, should be stopped one week before the ELECTIVE colonoscopy. Take care.

Yes: The Prilosec and multivitamin are safe to resume.  They should not cause any bleeding and may help protect the lining of your stomach and esophagus.

Go see your doctor: When someone reports throwing up something that looks like coffee grinds, we worry about digested blood in the stomach, eg bleeding ulcer. Therefore, if you're reporting coffee grind appearance to your stool, it's a good idea to go see your family doc who can arrange for a repeat endoscopy since lots of Aspirin can lead to bleeding ulcers. Please don't wait until you feel faint & weak!

Several days: Aspirin will permanently affect the adhesiveness of platelets in your system at the time you take it (not really thin your blood).  The platelets have a life span of 5-7 days, and your body will be constantly generating new ones which will have normal function.

have been on aspirin for 7 weeks because of nonweight bearing injury. i am now weight bearing & can stop aspirin. should i ween off or can i just stop? i am currently in 325mg twice a day. heard stopping aspirin suddenly increases stroke risk. thanks?

: Ten years ago, I likely would have given you a different answer.  But, you are "correct".  Several years ago it was discovered in one study I looked at, that patients who stopped taking "low dose" 81 mg aspirin, had a 37% higher chance of heart attacks or stroke over the next 3 years.  At your age, these risks are rather small, but never zero.  You may want to discuss this with your doctor
