on doxycycline for malaria prophlaxis. doc asked to take amoxyciline for skin infection. 
is it ok to stop doxy while i'm on amoxy only 5days?

Go back to dr.: Do not stop doxycycline if you are still at risk for malaria (ie still in malarious area, or returned within last 4 wks).  Amoxicillin is not compatible with doxy, your doc should prescribe a different antibiotic.  Be sure to inform him that you are currently taking doxy.  Amoxicillin will not kill malaria parasites in the blood.

can i take b vitamins with doxycycline or will the vitamins stop the doxy from working ? thanks

Don't take together: B Vitamins can decrease effectiveness of Doxycycline. It is considered a minor interaction. Hold off on the supplements while taking the antibiotic unless your doctor has prescribed the supplement. In that case discuss this with that doctor. taking doxy for about 20 days, i want to go tanning before my vaca, how many days prior should i stop taking it, and can i go back to it10 days later ?

10 days: No perfect answer. I would not recommend tanning at all. But if you are going to anyway, i would stop 10 days prior to the tanning booth.

Doxycycline: It is important to decide if you have chronic folliculitis or adult onset acne. Consider other treatments which might include Retin-A cream, topical Cleocin solution or Benzaclin (clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide) gel. Also address any issues with oral contraceptives and their role in acne. Consider seeing a dermatologist, or even oral Acutane.

i have been taking doxy 100 mg twice a day for 6 days. the course is 15 days. today, i have hives on my right upper arm and 2 on my back. stop?

Ask your doc!: Talk to your prescribing physician. Tell him/her what you've noted above. It may or may not be related. Understand why you're supposed to take that antibiotic for that period of time. Are you better? What about the infection getting worse? How about switching to another antibiotic. Could you tolerate development of antibiotic resistance, diarrhea & yeast infections? Talk to ur doc about ur options.

currently on 50mg doxycycline for 6 weeks and my skins so much worse. i am also taking famvir (anti-viral) medication and a zinc supplement. do i need to stop taking the zinc + famvir for the doxy to work correctly and quickly??

: In that dose, probably you're on doxycycline for acne. It can take several weeks for improvement to be obvious. Zinc and famciclovir (Famvir) do not interfere with doxycycline. Discuss all this with the doctor who prescribed it.

lyme disease for the past two months, now have severe sore throat, sneezing, nausea, gas, and white tongue two days after taking full dose of doxy (was taking with milk for first three weeks, lyme specialist told me to stop taking with milk) help! ?

Milk interfer absorp: Doxycycline needs to be therapeutically absorbed.  Would be better  if you were treated  earlier. I am uncertain your present symptoms are  related  to lyme.

No: One's Depo-Provera shot retains its same effectiveness, regardless of whether or not one is taking doxycycline or any of the commonly used antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, Zithromax, tetracyclines, or cephalosporins).

Accepted Answer

Doxycycline:  Are you taking it with a full glass of water each time?  If yes, you can take with a glass of milk or food to decrease abdominal discomfort (although It may decrease some absorption of medication).

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Take it until the acne is improved. It can be resumed later if needed.
